Hi, I’m Jane from BlenditandMendit.com. Welcome. Today I am making a zinger of a green smoothie. It has the wonder of watercress in it.

Wake Up Zing

Watercress is peppery, spicy… it’s gonna wake you up. You’ll notice that the watercress is still attached to the roots. It is still a living plant.

New Greens

The bag that it comes in lists all of its nutrition. It’s water filled, phyto-nutrient filled, calcium and iron rich. This is an excellent, tender green to add to your rotation. And that peppery zing adds such a difference to your green smoothie taste buds. That’s why I like it. We have to have new greens and new blends to stay in the greens drinking game long term. I know you hear me say it alot, but it’s true.

To your blender add a cucumber. If your cucumber is organic or pesticide free, you can leave the skin on, but if it’s not, go ahead and peel the skin, cut it into a couple of pieces, and put it into your blender. Then add about one cup or a handful of the watercress. Sometimes this is called Upland Cress, I think they’re interchangeable. Now squeeze some lemon into the blender. A couple of tablespoons, maybe the juice from a half of a lemon, it’s really to taste.

Lemon Temper

I have found through my green smoothie blending, that mixing fresh lemon juice with the peppery greens or the bitter greens, somehow tempers the flavor. Maybe the sour cancels out the peppery or the bitter. I don’t know, but it works, so I want you to add some lemon juice to your blender. Now add one cup of water. And then one teaspoon of sea salt. I happen to be using the pink himalayan sea salt.

So here we go with another ‘keep it simple, smoothie’ blend. If there’s one thing my watercress wonder green smoothie does, I think it’s a good craving killer.

Like all of the greens. Only this one, there’s something about that peppery burst of flavor, it gets your mind off of other foods and you feel satisfied.

I love how the salt comes through. It’s salty… peppery… lemony… and of course, always fresh, hydrating, cleansing.

Watercress Green Smoothie Recipe

  • 1 cucumber
  • 1 cup watercress
  • 2 TBS fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt
  • 1 cup water

Blend. Sip. Beautify.

    I love that this recipe does not have a sweet fruit in it. Nice to keep variety. I sometimes forget to make my green smoothies w/o sweet fruits. I need to get back to that in my rotation.
