VitaMix Jan's Recovery Green Smoothie
“Jan’s Recovery Green Smoothie” is a viewer submitted recipe by Jan from Scotland. It’s creamy, refreshing and contains a rainbow of flavor, phytonutrients and antioxidants. Scroll down below the video and transcript for her green smoothie recipe and to read more about Jan and get her recipe for her produce wash, too!
I got this terrific letter from Jan the other day and she writes:
“I was a cancer victim. And now I am fully recovered and my doctor can’t believe how well I have recovered. It is now nearly 6 years ago. I know that it is all down to my change of diet and my twice daily green smoothies.”
I am not a doctor.
As you all know, I am not a doctor and I’m not giving you medical advice or treatment. What I am doing is sharing, from one human being to another, some green smoothie experiences. Jan’s ingredients called for one frozen banana, cut into chunks. Jan uses a Waring Pro blender to make her green smoothies, so see you don’t have to have a high speed blender and there’s no excuse for not getting started drinking your smoothies now.
Then Jan adds a handful of frozen blueberries. Well, I figure that’s about a half a cup, so I’m adding 1/2 cup of frozen blue berries into the VitaMix. Then she adds a handful of frozen strawberries. Let’s make that 6. You know, green smoothies are not scientific concoctions. They are the art of green smoothie. So when somebody says a handful, it’s good either way, you don’t have to be totally specific with your measurements.
Then 6 leaves of Romaine lettuce. This beautiful, tender, deep green lettuce is full of phytonutrients and antioxidants. It has a very high water content, hardly any calories at all, full of fiber, go ahead, put it all right into the blender. Look at that. We’re starting to see Jan’s routine come to life.
Then Jan adds one TBS of ground, hulled, hemp seed. Don’t let that throw you. Here’s what the shelled hemp seed looks like. It’s these beautiful, tiny little seeds jam packed with protein and amino acids. If you have a high speed blender or the VitaMix you don’t have to pre-grind them. But, you can just use a coffee or spice grinder if you want to turn them into a powder before you add them to your blender depending on what kind of blender you have.
A TBS of ground sesame seeds. Pure calcium. Sesame seeds are very high in bio-available calcium. Then Jan adds one TBS of my Nectar Of The Gods Sweetener. Here’s how to make the Nectar of the Gods Sweetener, and how to make the fresh almond milk in your VitaMix so you know how to do everything. It’s very simple. I don’t do anything complicated. I want more health, less work.
More health, less work.
So here is the Nectar of the Gods Sweetener, which is just Medjool dates or any variety of dates you can get, soaked in coconut water or plain water. It makes a delicious, luscious, fiber filled natural food sweetener. So let’s add one TBS of my Nectar of the Gods Sweetener. And I use this for so many things, for shakes, ice creams, green smoothies, all kinds of luscious desserts and meals.
1 – 1 1/2 cups of fresh, home made almond milk. I make my own, it’s one ingredient, soaked almonds and some water. It’s very easy. And then 1/2 tsp of cinnamon. Mmm… you know that’s gonna add a luscious apple pie type of flavor to your green smoothie. This is not just a green smoothie, this is a meal. This will carry me all through the morning up until lunch, possibly past lunch til mid-afternoon…. Jan also writes, “This I call my breakfast special and believe me I am very good for my age. All my previous liver spots have faded. I feel fantastic and even my white hair has gone very much darker and seems to be getting a lot of color back.” Read Jan’s story below.
Here is Jan’s wonderful green smoothie, all the way from Scotland to me. I really appreciate it, Jan. It is a gorgeous color. The blueberries always do that. Look at that, the beautiful texture, it’s nice and icy. I can’t wait to taste it. Up to the top, top it off…. and there’s enough for another one in here. Just go ahead and load it up, put it in your refrigerator. Look at that. Very mild… the Romaine almost disappears, I can taste it a little bit and I’m glad, I love Romaine. Not too sweet, very creamy.
I love that almond milk in there. Think of the rainbow that’s in here. We’re supposed to eat a rainbow of colors everyday. We have the red from the strawberries, the blue from the blueberries, the green from the lettuce, white calcium from the almond milk and the sesame seeds. Delicious, Jan. Thank you for sending this in. Join me in the drinking your greens journey. It’s worth it.

[..YouTube..] Thank you for this recipe. I just tried this smoothie, substituting fresh raspberries for the strawberries, and am gettiing a bitter aftertaste. Is this how this smoothie normally tastes? What is making it taste so bitter?
Thanks for this. Jan sounds like an amazing woman! I’m glad she made the smoothie with a Waring blender. I can’t afford a vitamix right now and wasn’t sure how well the Waring was with greens but maybe now I’ll start with that one for now. Thanks again.
