Today I am making my Anti Aging Creamy Lemonade. It only requires 3 ingredients, a cup of water which I already added to the VitaMix, 1/2 fresh lemon, I cut the end off and scraped off the peel and then I cut it in half to search for seeds, so here’s the half lemon, I took out the seeds and I add that to the VitaMix.

Diluted lemon juice helps to break up and rinse away calcifications, and our middle aged, baby boomer bodies probably have a lot stored up in our nooks and crannies. One of the things we want to do as we get older is stay loosey goosey in the joints. Having some fresh lemon juice is a good thing for that as are all of the waterful foods that we can add to our diet.

Then all you have to add is 1/4 cup of my NOG sweetener, and NOG is short for Nectar of the Gods Sweetener. I’m putting the link right up here on the screen – if you click that link it will take you to the video which shows you how to make this. It’s the only sweetener I know of with fiber and electrolytes. And of course, it only has 2 ingredients, some dates and some coconut water.

And then a splash of vanilla, maybe a teaspoon or so. I like vanilla, I might have put a little more than that in or if you have vanilla bean you can snip off an inch or so, add that to the VitaMix. Now we are going to blend up our little concoction and see what we get.

Ok, take off the top… mmm, smells vanilla- y, looks creamy, let’s pour it into a beautiful glass. It is a golden  color, like a light bronze. We have a little garnish here…

This tastes like a lemony creamsicle, in fact, I’m going to make this with oranges, too. It has the zing of the lemon, the sweetness of the dates and the coconut water, it’s creamy, probably becasue of the way the VitaMix emulsifies everything. It even has a foam top on it and little brown flecks from the dates, very beautiful.

Fresh lemon juice helps to purify our breath from the inside out. Like all waterful foods, lemon juice is anti inflammatory. We think of it as an acid food because it’s so sour, but it’s alkaline forming on the inside.

I’m convinced, because adding waterful foods to my diet on a daily basis helps me feel really good and that is what anti aging is all about. I hope you’ll try this, post your comments and questions and let me know what you think.

what can I use if I am allergic to dates ( and figs) perhaps honey?

    • Jane says:

      Hi Kerry,
Definitely don’t use anything you are allergic to!
If honey is safe for you to eat, then I see no reason why that won’t work.
Some of the best honey I’ve ever eaten has been raw and organic.
One tip: when using honey in a green smoothie, add and blend before you add any ice, then finish blending.
That way the honey will dissolve and incorporate easier.
Try it and keep me posted.

Jane, What’s your position on including the pith of the lemon? I just made this drink having cut off most of the pith but, if memory serves, a good deal of nutrients are in the pith. Do you include the pith in this drink? (We loved it, btw!) Thanks, Christine

    • Jane says:

      Hi Christine,

Right you are, there are nutrients in the pith and they help to nourish the tiny blood vessels in the extremities; fingers and toes.

I leave it on most of the time and in this recipe, too.

I didn’t have coconut water, but made it without…yum! Wondering what the latest is on the coconut water as I see a lot of people drinking it. What are the benefits?

Also, just got my Vitamix about 10 days ago, so glad I found your site!

    Thanks!

      Hi Chris,
Too many to list here (medium chain fatty acids, electrolytes, etc.) and it tastes wonderful, just google coconut water – I hope you get as much fun and wellbeing from your VitaMix as I get from mine.
Welcome to Blend It and Mend it! :)

Howdy Jane. What type of vanilla do you use? I am planning on buying some ‘pure’ vanilla soon as the only type we have at home is the artificial stuff, which I find hard to balance between getting enough vanilla flavour and avoiding that bitter undertone and aftertaste left by artificial extracts (I don’t know if it is the glycerin, or the artificial flavoring, or what, but it’s there – of course not a big deal in baking, when these components disipate with the high temps, but not so great in smoothies and puddings!) I am thinking of getting a pure Madegascar vanilla.

    • Jane says:

      Hi Nikki,

Yes, Madagascar vanilla is what I use, too. Sometimes I use Tahitian vanilla. For your convenience, I carry the extract, powder and whole beans in my store:

I use the powder or bean when I am making ice creams or any time I don’t want to increase the liquid in a recipe. I use the liquid extract in smoothies. I love it all, there’s something about real vanilla….
