Problem: fattening, clogging ice cream.

My solution: slimming, cleansing “ice cream” made in the Vita-Mix blender.

Transcript of video:

All it requires for a basic recipe is one frozen banana broken up into two or three pieces. Put the banana into the blender first. Add 10 frozen strawberries. I get the big bag from Costco and I use them for so many things. Add your frozen strawberries to the Vita-Mix. If you don’t have a high-speed blender, you’ll probably have to cut this recipe in half, or partially defrost the fruit first or add just a touch of water to get things going. If you have a Vita-Mix or other high-speed blender, no problem.

Let’s make some ice cream. (Blending for approximately 45 seconds to one minute.) When you hear the motor labor, it’s a good thing. It just means it’s homogenizing the frozen fruit and getting ready to make its final push on it.

Look at that consistency. Mmm, the strawberry flavor is bursting out of there and it’s creamy from the banana. You can use an ice cream scoop with it. I have chosen a delightful, crystal goblet – everything tastes better in beautiful plates and bowls. See how much is in there, I could eat it all myself, and there’s plenty for you to share with someone else. It scoops just like ice cream or soft serve. What do you think?

So, when you get a craving for the fattening and cloggy stuff, just pause for a moment and think, “Hmmm, I have a Vita-Mix®… I’ve got some fruit in the house…” then you can curl up on the couch and treat yourself really well.

  1. [..YouTube..] So this isn’t harmful to the machine at all?

  2. [..YouTube..] @TheLoserKingdom Hi, thanks for writing.I have been making my ice cream and fruit sorbets just like this for 4 years now in this very blender, the only one I own, and it’s fine. In the Vita-Mix® recipe book, the instructions for making the Frozen Desserts read:”Use tamper to press ingredients into the blades while processing. In about 30-60 seconds, the sound of the motor will change… Stop machine. Do not overmix or melting will occur.”That’s what I was trying to communicate :)

  3. [..YouTube..] @blenditandMendit Yeah, I just made this in my Vita-Mix. It blew through it like butter. The ice cream was AMAZING! I can’t wait to share some of my recipes with you.I have been thinking about doing an ice cream that incorporates spinach into it. You could try a recipe out and share it, or maybe I should… :)

  4. [..YouTube..] @TheLoserKingdom Definitely send me your spinach ice cream recipe and with your permission I’ll make it on camera and share it with everyone. It’s great you are blending and mending. Send me a pic of you and your VitaMix and I’ll put it in the video! It’s great to hear from you and I can’t wait to try out your amazing ice cream. I love new recipes and viewers send in the best ones! Yes, do it. Jane.

[..YouTube..] I make this everyday. I am addicted to it. Had it for breakfast this morning. I have made it with some spinach and almond milk. Have to spend the weekend experimenting so I don’t overdose on this ice cream. I feel good about it because what is healther that fruit!

  13. [..YouTube..] @Catwoman501 I am glad you are enjoying it and I am glad you took the time to comment so that others get to hear reviews other than mine :) Jane

  14. Hemolymph says:

[..YouTube..] My vita-mix turned this into snow and it flew up everywhere! Maybe my fruit was too frozen? I added a drop of water to get it to a “softer” texture. My 4 year old daughter, LOVED IT. No more unhealthy ice cream for us! She even asked for seconds :-)

  15. [..YouTube..] @Hemolymph That’s happened to me umpteen times – sometimes because I start out with the blender on high, sometimes until the frozen fruit begins to mix with other ingredients – keep that lid on!Glad your daughter likes it!

  16. NoraDlist says:

    [..YouTube..] Fantastic!

  17. [..YouTube..] @NoraDlist Thanks!

  18. jkalm4ofus says:

[..YouTube..] this is yummy. when i didn’t have a banana i used an avocado and added some nectar of the gods…yummy.

  19. [..YouTube..] @jkalm4ofus That is a great banana sub idea. Thanks! I’m gonna pass it on :)

  20. chaunym7 says:

[..YouTube..] Just wondering..can I add some almond milk for a “creamy” texture??Thanks!

  21. [..YouTube..] @chaunym7 Yes, definitely, but it also might make it a softer texture, like a soft serve – so freeze some almond milk into ice cubes and use it that way to keep the texture firm.

I have made choc ice cream, just don’t remember the quantities but used avocado, cocoa and frozen banana. Maybe I used some spinach too because when it melted a little it definately had a green color to the liquid. It was very good though.

Jane, thanks for all of your ice cream recipes. I have only had my Vita Mix
for a few weeks, and so far I have only done smoothies. I am going to try your ice cream recipes next. I have a couple of questions. Can you store any left over ice cream in your refrigerator freezer? If so, what do you recommend storing it in? Thanks for your wonderful website.

    • Jane says:

Congrats on your VitaMix. I hope you get as much fun and wellbeing from yours as I get from mine.
Yes, you can store leftover ice cream in the freezer. I have put it in small plastic, covered containers like Tupperware or Rubbermaid.
It freezes hard and you may have to let it set out for a few minutes before eating. I usually never get that far, eating it all when I make it!
