Summer Green Smoothie Joe and Suzi
Welcome. Today I am making Joe and Suzi’s ‘so good you want to chug it’ green smoothie.
Key To Good Green Smoothie
It is full of spinach and delicious summer fruit. Joe and Suzi wrote in and said, “Hey, Jane, I made a really good smoothie this morning and it’s packed with spinach. The cantaloupe was really ripe…” That’s the key to a good green smoothie; ripe, seasonal fruit whenever possible.
Spinach, A Little Or A Lot
I used a big handful of spinach, some ice and some water; the grapes were the key. It’s so good, it’s hard to sip because you want to chug it.” I know exactly what you mean, Joe and Suzi. It’s difficult to not just chug down a delicious green smoothie. 1/2 cup of blueberries, I’m using frozen today. You can use fresh or frozen.
Chew Your Green Smoothie
1 and 1/2 frozen bananas and remember, blend, sip, beautify. That’s what we’re doing here. Really delicious, so refreshing, I can just taste the banana in there and there’s little flecks in there from the blueberry skins. We’re supposed to sip and savor our green smoothies. Digestion begins in the mouth, that’s when the salivary juices begin to break down the food. So, if you can… … roll the green smoothie around in your mouth a little bit and “chew” it.
Joe and Suzi, you’re right on with this blend. It is delicious and I recommend you put as much spinach as you want into this blend. Some of you may only want one leaf, some of you are ready to put in a half of a bunch of spinach. Just do what you can when you can, but remember to begin drinking your greens. They are so complementary to the human body.

Hi Jane,
I recently purchased a Vitamix and have spent most of today on your website viewing all the great smoothies or great ideas ( from K.I.S.S) and I’m very excited to get started but have a question on the machine itself. I noticed that you never seem to change the variable speed so in making the smoothies does the variable always stay on 1 ? Thank you.
Juliette
Hi Juliette,
Congratulations on getting a VitaMix – I hope you get as much fun and well being from yours as I get from mine.
Yes, I usually don’t need to use the variable speed when I’m making a smoothie because I’m going for as smooth as possible as fast as possible, so I just flip it to HIGH from the get-go for approx. 30-45 seconds and my green smoothie is ready. When using HIGH, you can leave the variable on 1 or any other setting as it bypasses the variable speeds when on HIGH.
I do use the variable speeds when making salsas, chopping vegeys, etc.
