Today I am making this summer cilantro green smoothie with a little bit of kick in it. And the kick comes from jalapeno pepper. This is another one of my ‘keep it simple’ green smoothies.

2 Tomatoes

All you need are a couple of Roma tomatoes or the tomato of your choice. I use Roma / plum tomatoes because usually, when they’re organic, they’re the least expensive tomato, and we’re going to blend them up anyway.

1 Cucumber

Add a cucumber. If the cucumber is organic or pesticide free, you don’t have to peel it, but if it’s not, go ahead and peel it, cut it up into a few pieces and add it to the blender.

1/2″ Jalapeno Pepper

I add about 1/2″ of jalapeno pepper and I remove the seeds from it. If you leave the seeds in, it’s going to be super hot. That’s up to you, but for this, I ususally take it out because I want to be able to enjoy this smoothie.

Lime

Take a half of a lime and squeeze it into the blender. You’ll end up with 1-2 TBS of fresh lime juice.

Cilantro

And then of course, a handful of fresh cilantro. Cilantro is amazing. It’s known as the happy herb. Don’t worry, drink cilantro.

Capsaicin, the chemical that makes chili peppers hot, is a mucous clearing, congestion combatting, sinus infection fighting, anti-bacterial agent.

Pretty good stuff. And it’s calling your name. The perfect amount of heat. Not so much that you’re going to begin sweating, but enough so you know the jalapeno’s there and so you know this is a libation with a kick.

    Dear Jane,

For a few months now we’ve been thinking about getting the Vitamix. Well, it is in the cart now, and I am about to press “pay”. I am excited and scared, because I don’t want this to be an appliance that ends up gathering dust! I want it to bring greater health to me and my family! Thank you for your site!

      Hi Lisa,
I hope you get as much fun and wellbeing from your VitaMix as I get from mine. It sounds like you will. Just take it one day at a time. Now get blending:)
