This VitaMix Anti Aging How To Make A Green Smoothie On The Fly video shows you that you can go in your fridge, use what you have and make the most of your produce.

How do you know your greens are still alive and nutritious? I give you the secret in the video, that you can use at home and at the market.

I want to teach you how to make a green smoothie on the fly. I call it my kitchen sink green smoothie. The purpose of it is so that you can use what you have in the refrigerator without having to run out to the store. So, say you’ve got, like I did in my fridge today, some collard greens. What is the difference between these two leaves? This one’s still standing straight up, it’s still alive, it has nutrition. This one, not so much. You don’t need to put that in your green smoothie. This goes into the compost.

This one we want to use. So, I’ve got a few collard greens in my refrigerator that I want to use, because you can tell they need to be eaten today. How’s this one? On the edge, but I’m gonna go with it. This one? Yep, it’s still standing, it has its nutrition, its still alive. That’s a good way for you to test whether your greens are good or not and what you should use. I also have some celery bits that I’m going to throw in there. These are still good, look at that. These are the inside, leafy parts of the celery. Just crack them in half, hear that crunch? They’re good. Put them in the blender, too.

I also went into my freezer and I want to use this up… …I’ve had some frozen watermelon chunks sitting in there for a week. I used some last week in a recipe. I want to use these up. It’s very hot outside where I live, I need something refreshing. I’m not gonna go to the store and buy new food until I use up what I can and what I have. So one, two, three big chunks of frozen watermelon, took care of that, it’s not gonna go to waste. I will get to benefit from it. I have a half a lime that was cut a few days ago, it’s just sitting there and needs to be used so I’m gonna squeeze the juice from that half a lime right in here. So this is not some recipe I tortured myself over and spent days wondering about. You go in to the refrigerator and you look around and you see what you’ve got, think on your feet, make your green smoothie on the fly. It’s very rewarding. Here we go.

Think On Your Feet

It’s looking very colorful in there, right? Phytonutrients and anti-oxidants. And I’m gonna put a little, tiny piece of ginger in here, not this whole thing, just want to cut off a little piece. I love the warming aspects of ginger but I don’t want- oh, the aroma – I don’t want the flavor to overwhelm my smoothie. I just want it to pump it up a notch. This is organic ginger, so I’m not peeling it. I did wash it thoroughly, wash all your produce thoroughly, whether it’s organic or non-organic. You never know who’s handled it or where it’s been, so clean it up good before you eat it.

I also have in the refrigerator about 3/4 of a cup of coconut water, because I’ve been opening coconuts this last week and making some delicious recipes. Go check out this week’s recipes on my channel; so I want to use that up. You can just smell the coconut aroma. Pour that in there. Coconut, watermelon, lime, 3 leaves of collard greens and 3 stalks celery. That’s my kitchen sink green smoothie for today. You can make green smoothies with what you have most of the time, I’m not saying it always works, sometimes we have to go to the store.

What is this going to taste like? I almost don’t care, I just want my greens. But it is important to make your green smoothies delicious so that you can enjoy them and look forward to them. That’s one of the keys about rotating your greens, too. Use a wide variety of greens. There are 16 in the conventional supermarket that I have here. Then I’ve got all the health food stores and all the other markets and the farmer’s markets. There’s the wild greens… so you’re never gonna run out if you put it up here in your head and begin to be conscious about drinking your greens.

This is nice and frosty from the frozen watermelon, so it’s kind of like a slushie, frosty, shake-y smoothie. Look at that. Wow.. it’s a gorgeous color. It smells so refreshing. So celery’s the dominant flavor… … the collard greens got lost in there somewhere, which is surprising because they have a strong flavor to them. The watermelon and the coconut water and the lime, those really combine as a nice base. The ginger got lost, too, I guess I just didn’t put enough in there to make it taste different. But the anti-inflamatory benefits of the ginger are in there, so that’s what I like. Fabulous.

Kitchen Sink

Sometimes your kitchen sink green smoothies, your odds and ends green smoothies, remember I made the odds and ends green smoothie, here’s the link to it, can be some of your best creations. And they’re satisfying in other ways. I didn’t have to go to the store, didn’t have to waste time or money. I like those aspects of it. So I hope you will go into your kitchen, learn how to make a green smoothie on the fly, and get the satisfaction and the nourishment and all the feel good aspects from drinking your greens.

[..YouTube..] When mmy greens get a bit wilted, I simply pop them into a glass of water and rehydrate them. Works like a charm. I did this to greens I bought at the Farmer’s Market yesterday that were a little parched by the time I got home. Thanks for your videos Jane – I’m learning so much and I’m enjoying your new eBook too!Debbie *Ü*

  11. [..YouTube..] Check your information about food combining. From what I read you cant mix melon with anything else.

  12. [..YouTube..] @ParadiseWellnessPR Right you are. “Melon, eat it alone or leave it alone.” Nonetheless, I mix it with greens and other fruits with no problem, especially using the VItaMix :) Jane

  13. [..YouTube..] @ParadiseWellnessPR Why?

  14. [..YouTube..] @cjjohnsonfamily …Im not too scientific, but something about the enzymes used to breakdown melons are very diffferent and should not be eaten with any other foods at all…not even other melons. Check out info on proper food combining….all the charts suggest not mixing melons.
