Today I’m going to make my Chia Gel Beauty Water. Recipe below.

This is the first time I’ve used the chia gel, which is soaked chia seeds, in one of my Beauty Waters. These little seeds are so powerful, I wanted to share them with you. My Beauty Waters are different than green smoothies. Green smoothies are thick, they can be a meal replacement, but the Beauty Waters have a water like texture to them and you can sip on them all day and get your greens in a new way. We have to have new blends to keep going in the greens drinking game.

The Beauty of Simplicity

Here’s all you have to do. I started out with 6 cups of water; and you can decrease the quantity if you want, but this is going to last me all day long, I’ll just pour it into a couple of glasses or you can pour it into a thermos and take it to work. So into the 6 cups of water goes a handful of baby mixed greens. If you like, you can sub out the baby greens for a green of your choice. Maybe a leaf of kale or a leaf of romaine, chard, collard greens, dill, herbs: parsley, cilantro, anything you like. The point is to get some greens into your Beauty Water.

A little bit of lemon. This is like 1/8 of a lemon. I peeled it but left the white pith. Make sure you remove the seeds so you won’t get a bitter taste. We all know how cleansing lemon is – also add a little smidge of ginger root. I always like the cleansing and healing effects of ginger, but I don’t like it to overwhelm the other flavors, so I’m just using a little bit. And I’m adding 6 grapes. You can add a little chunk of pineapple, maybe a slice of orange, any little bit of fruit that you want. This is just to give your Beauty Water a hint of sweetness, but we don’t want to overdue it, because the Beauty Waters are low glycemic.

We’re using water as a base instead of fruit juice, we’re keeping our fruit additions low. I know a lot of you write to me and for a variety of reasons, say, Jane, I just don’t want all of that fruit that’s in the green smoothies. Well you don’t have to have it, you can get your greens without all the fruit and that’s another reason I created Beauty Water. And then, of course, a teaspoon of the chia gel. You can just go ahead and google chia seeds and you’ll see how beneficial they are.

9:1

They’re protein packed. They’re muciligenic, which means the gel helps to pull out the crummy stuff from your intestinal tract and help you get rid of it. They’re filling; they keep your stomach feeling full longer. They keep your blood sugar stable. It’s a wonderful little seed and they’re really pretty. You have to soak them first. Don’t just throw them in there. They need 9 times their weight in water. So to make the gel, it’s 9-1; one part chia seeds and nine parts water. Mix it up, put it in the fridge, it’ll last you 10 days or 2 weeks. Take a teaspoon every day, add it to your shakes. They have no flavor of their own, so they absorb the flavor of whatever you are making.

Another greens drinking wonder. Look at the color. See the texture? It’s like water or like a light juice. It’s not thick like a smoothie. So you could drink this with your meals if you want to. Let’s put a little in this goblet, so we have something pretty to drink it out of… ah… very refreshing… very light. You’re getting some of your greens, you’ve got the ginger, the lemon, the chia seeds… and it’s so pretty, it has little bitty specks from the ground chia seeds in there… once this chills on the fridge it will be even better. You can add ice to the blender if you want. Delicious. I hope you’ll make my chia gel Beauty Water and let me know what you think. Hello Jane…what a coincidence! yesterday I sat curled up on the couch watching some of your past videos as a sort of pick me up. I found I’d never made ‘garlic sauce’ or ‘peanut carob ice cream’…so I made them and bingo… felt so much better :) . I’ve been talking about you and wondering when you would post a new video. I have chia seeds in the fridge and am re motivated to include them daily. Thank you again …good to see you on top form.

      Hi Sarah,

It’s great to hear from you, too – I was tending to other stuff and in a video rest phase but all clear now and I’m looking forward to making so many yummy blends, I have a folder bursting with viewer submitted smoothies and I have so many new Beauty Waters to share…

Thanks for hanging in there and the garlic sauce can be used as a salad dressing, marinade, etc. BTW: the peanut carob ice cream is one of my faves, I think you’ll like it, let me know.

Hope all is well and love to the you and the kids.

Hi Jane and Sarah. This recipe looks great but I was wondering … Can I pit carob chips instead of powder in? Thx. Anna
