Hi, I’m Jane from blenditandmendit.com. Welcome. Today I am making all hail kale, queen of the greens, green smoothie.

Some of you may think kale is tough – it is. Some of you may think it’s bitter. It can be. But when you blend it up with some apple juice, most of that goes away and you’re left with a delicious, luscious green smoothie. This is one of my favorites. Apple juice, kale, little bit of cinnamon, and a squeeze of lemon juice. Here’s how I make it: Start off with 4 cups of fresh apple juice.

Then add about a half a bunch of dinosaur kale. This is also known as Lacinato kale. It’s got the pebbly texture. Look at the veins in this leaf. Full of nutrition for us. It’s got anti-cancer compounds in it, phyto nutrients, anti-oxidants, it’s a gorgeous color of blue-green. This is a green you want to learn to love. And green smoothies are a great way to get your kale. To the apple juice and the kale, add 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon to give it a little apple pie thing. And then a squeeze of lemon, approximatley 2 TBS. Just give the half a lemon a couple squeezes, don’t let any seeds get in there and you’re ready to blend.

Blend. Sip. Beautify. That’s what we’re doing.

This is a good blend. When you begin to drink your greens on a consistent basis, you are going to crave the queen of the greens, kale. This is so good for us. Not just the fiber, the water that’s in it, the chlorophyll, it’s mineral dense, it has vitamins, it has essential amino acids. This is good stuff. It’s good for us through and through. So, begin to enjoy your kale and this is a wonderful way to do it. How else are you going to get 6 leaves of fresh, raw kale if not from a green smoothie like this? 4 cups fresh apple juice
6 leaves dinosaur / Lacinato kale
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
2 TBS fresh lemon juice

    This looks delicious. I have not seen Lacinato kale in south-central PA. Is the regular kale just as nutritious?
